Cultural Change is Viral…so is Good News

Facebook is a cultural phenomena–it has literally been used to change the course of nations like Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and others.

On Facebook and in other arena’s, we often hear people exercising their First Amendment rights in their criticisms of the president or government in general; they blast the education system because of it’s embrace of secular humanism and political correctness; they chastise the media for bias and untruth; they get animated over profane artwork that degrades Christ; they rail against Hollywood for making movies they willingly attend; they hate what has happened to the American family and are deeply afraid of other religious zealots who desire to kill American’s, Christians and Jews…

…and yet, they do not pray for God to impact those areas that dominantly influence the culture of every nation, especially ours.  Before there was ever a first amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Paul wrote:

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone– for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4 NIV)

The Great Commission does not need a 1st, 2nd or 3rd amendment-it was perfect when Jesus said it–now we just need to do it.  Prayer is the first step in discipling a nation.  America needs to be discipled; Florida needs to be discipled; Lee County needs to be discipled-before we ever get the opportunity to disciple a neighbor-the process of loving the unloving all begins with prayer.

As Christians, it is our time to properly engage the culture molders of our generation.  It is these systems that hold people captive as minds are influenced away from God.  We were called to the ministry of reconciliation-reconciling and bringing people back into the favor of God in right relationship through His Son Jesus.  It all begins with prayer.
