Defend Israel and Bless your Holy City Jerusalem
I have been in many conversations with people, both lost and saved, and sometimes they don’t understand the call to help Israel. They don’t understand why a conservative Christian like me would be so adamant about praying for and doing something to defend Israel.
There are a few reasons behind our motivation to bless the Apple of God’s eye–our brothers who share the same vine in which we were ‘grafted into’ through Christ.
Reason One
God is a God who fulfills His promises; He is always true to His word–always! He made a promise in Genesis to Abraham that He would bless those who blessed him and He would curse those who cursed him–all the peoples of the earth would be blessed through Abraham. God made a promise and it is a promise we can count on and apprehend.
Not sure if you noticed or not, but our country isn’t exactly running on all prosperity or morality cylinders right now. Seems like we should be willing to seek the King of Kings on behalf of His promise to the Jews. He further said at the parting of goats and sheep (Matt25), ‘that whatever you did for the least of these (naked, hungry, thirsty, sick and in prison) you did for me. Jesus is worthy.
Reason Two
If you and I were alive at the time of Hitler, living in Europe, would we have been an Oscar Schindler or would we have been ‘politically correct’? Schindler looked to his list, while others looked away out of fear. We are called to be brave and courageous.
As I put it to a Congressman recently, we have a chance in history, again, to defend the Jews while the politically correct nations gather together to isolate them and call for their literal annihilation. Hitler killed 6,000,000 Jews and there are 6,000,000 Jews now living in Israel. Iran (Arian), formerly Persia, is very, very close to producing a nuclear weapon. Brevity will not permit me to give you the verifiable reasons why they won’t hesitate to use it against Israel and the U.S. History does repeat itself and God is watching for those who would pray and openly defend His people. He is watching for faithful courage in those willing to stand and be counted worthy.
Final Reason
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.” This is what the LORD says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.” Zechariah 8:2-3 (NIV)
God’s passion for the Jews has not wavered. God does not change like shifting shadows.
The solid number one reason to pray for the Jewish people is because they need Jesus!
We pray for other countries, other people groups, why would we not pray for the people of God who are the apple of His eye. We simply need to be about the Great Commission and it is an honor to pray for God’s children of the first promise, Israel.
Our best national defense strategy is to pray for the defense of Israel. Let us love them as God loves them and pray for their blessing and returning to their first love.
