City Reaching Starts with Fort Myers
Fort Myers is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida. Its population was 62,298 in the 2010 census, a 29.23% increase over the 2000 figure. Established in 1886, Fort Myers is the historical and governmental hub of Lee County. It is the gateway to the Southwest Florida region, which is a major tourist destination in Florida.
Within the city limits there are 1,034 streets. Each street requires your adoption and to be bathed daily in prayer. The Adopt-a-Street campaign is not a season of prayer as in years past, but a commitment to disciple the city, beginning with prayer.
- Individuals or Families Commit to Pray for at least one street for a year.
- The goal is to Adopt every Street (1,034) in Fort Myers City Limits
- The initiative is to be led by Churches within the city limits
- Start Date: October 2011 (soft)
- Major Launch on Martin Luther King Day 2012
Structure of Adoption
- People pray for their street on a daily basis.
- Adoption is the antithesis of Orphanhood and Abandonment
- Effectively dealing with the Spirit of Poverty (lack)
What is effected when we deal with the Spirit of Poverty?
- Spiritual – People don’t know they have a heavenly Father that loves them – we show them the Father.
- Material – felt needs are met with resources
- Motivational – hope is provided
- Relational – they are no longer alone or abandoned.
